Starting work on a new book idea: Agile Transformations, from the inside out.
The framework is a 9-step pattern for Agile Transformations, in the context of the full Value Stream, where each step asks a question to be answered:
- Where do I want to go? (Strategy; Objective per OKR*)
- How will we measure progress? (Key Results per OKR)
- What cadences will we use? (establish single and double loop learning** cadences)
- Where am I currently? (prunes the option tree to constrain step 5)
- What’s next? (per 2)
- How did we do? (per step 2 and single loop learning cadence)
- How’s our overall progress? (per step 2 and double loop learning cadence)
- What’s next for single loop or double loop learning? (consider repeat 4-7 or 2-8)
- Did we complete enough to move our focus to the next place we want to go? (per 1 – 2)
At ADP, we executed a set of Agile Transformations from the inside out, leveraging Lean Agility to achieve Business Agility. We applied an Agile Transformation model to the Agile Transformations themselves. The book will capture the story, insights, and output of that endeavor over the course of five years. This 9-step pattern distills the outcome of the experiences as a strategic and tactical framework.
